Our Stand at Sign Link Live

We enjoyed a brilliant three days at one of the UK’s premier events for the signage sector

October 11th – 13th saw us pitch our sales tent (or stand as we like to call it) at Sign Link Live at the International Centre Telford. The show aimed to ‘put the sign back in Sign Show’ so it made sense that, as one of the UK’s leading suppliers to sign sector, we had a major presence at the event.

Our smart stand, designed by our in-house design team and smoothly installed by our smooth installation team, reflected our complete product range with a display of sign components (sign stand-offs, wall fixing stand-offs etc) LED window display frames and systems, freestanding non-illuminated display frames, acrylic light boxes and a small selection of POS from our GPX range.

Digital Corner saw a selection of our digital display products including a freestanding 55” multi touch dual OS totem as well as some of the latest touchscreen and android screens.

Most trade shows are a mix of the new and the familiar. We had a chance to catch up with some long established clients that we have been supporting since we were established, and we also had a chance to chat to some new people and hopefully develop good relations over the coming months.

Our LED easel is an ultra-smart easel-style display frame that incorporates LED light pocket frames in A2 or A3 sizes. With a choice of colour finishes and configuration of frames, it offered the ultimate in flexible LED display solutions, and it will soon be a regular feature in fashion retail locations, hotels, clubs & restaurants, spas and salons and loads of other smart locations.

Faux print is so hot its cool and our Fo range makes the most of this design trend. Combining the latest in interior trends and print technology we have created a range of faux print LED light pocket frames that bring a whole new designer dimension to display. We included a small selection of POS and POP retail display products from our GPX range at the show. The sales and customer service arm of the brand has recently been incorporated into the Mid West Displays team at Shrewsbury and the product range is an natural extension of our display products.

We enjoyed three brilliant days at the show and will report back on more news and stories from the show in future blogs.

My First Experience of the Work Environment.

My name is Christopher and I have come to Mid West Displays to do my work experience.

I am looking to go to college and university to carry on with Art and Design, and try some new courses such as Photography, Interior Design and Architecture. At the moment, I chose German, Textiles, Art and Geography for my subject choices at secondary school.

From this work experience week I was expecting a very stressful environment with people I had never met in my entire life. I came here on Monday feeling very nervous and came out at the end of the day feeling like a new person after experiencing the workplace environment for the first time. On the first day, I was introduced to Michelle and given a tour around the building to see all the different areas. I definitely started to feel much calmer as the tour continued with a warm welcome from everyone here.

Then I was introduced to Tim, and finally shown what I was going to be doing for the day. I started off using the laser cutter, which I was slightly nervous about, but Tim reassured me that I was going to be alright. I started to get the hang of things, and surprisingly had already finished the first batch in about an hour.

He then showed me to the show room which was very cool and unique, as it showed all the products from Mid West Displays, and it was a great thing to look at.

My first impressions’ of the people I was working around was that they all had the same sense of humour as me, which made me feel much better about being here. After I had done the acrylic engravings, Tim told me that I would be allowed to make something I could take home with me, which was great! I also helped Tim change the fittings on a few panels for a customer. I printed my own product on Corel, and went to BnQ and Screwfix to get supplies.

On Tuesday I started to get to know some of the people a bit more, which was a good thing because I’m not really that good at getting to know people. I learned how to outline a customer’s logo for engraving, which was a good experience. I helped use the lasercutter to cut some acrylic washers which was another order from a customer. We quality checked a few returned products from customers, and finally I took a technical drawing and designed it on the AutoCAD Software to produce the product.

 

The Design Team

On Wednesday, I worked with the Design Team for the day to design some stickers and my New York Box, which was a good laugh. I thought that all of the Design Team were hilarious and was happy to be here. I was shown how to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and shown how the company design their products using Rhino Software.

All in all, so far I am really enjoying my work experience and in the future, I am thinking about working here for my first job. For the future, the things I have learnt here are sure to help me with Uni and College, and maybe even for my first job.
